I’m so angry I can barely speak as I follow the tall, slender Feyna down the endless hallways to harem HQ.

It was all going so well! I was beginning to see glimpses of another side of Aurus—tender, empathetic, gentle—and then he had to revert right back to his pompous self. Asshat.

If only he wasn’t so good in bed. That’s literally the only thing he’s useful for. And I hate how addicted I already am to his taste, his scent, his touch…

He’d slay an army for me, but the second I don’t act like the perfect little Omega, he dismisses me from his sight. Fuck him.

I only wish it didn’t hurt so much.

Feyna pauses outside the grand double doors to the harem, and a moment later, they slide open. How am I going to escape when I can’t even figure out how the damn doors work? I never see the Ulfarri push any buttons, or hear them say any words.

It’s all so confusing.

My poon twinges with every step and, now that I’ve had some food, I realize just how desperately I want a bath. I want to wash away every last trace of that jerk.

The moment I enter the main room of the harem, my arms prickle. The main area isn’t the lively hub of chatter it typically is. A few Betas lounge in their usual spots, but their eyes are closed. Sweat dots their foreheads. One is curled up, her hair a bedraggled mess—definitely not typical. Another has her arms wrapped around herself, and she’s biting her lip. There’s a distant sound of moaning.

Oh, fuck. Aurus had ordered they all be punished.

Because of me.

Fuck.

I scan the perfumed, pretty Betas until my gaze lands on Annay. She’s perched on a sumptuous chaise, gazing into space. I hurry over to her.

“Annay?”

She glances at me, then looks away again. There’s a sheen of sweat on her powder blue forehead.

“Annay, please talk to me. Are you all right?”

She blows out a breath. “No, of course not. This is your fault! You did this!”

I look around. More of the Betas are approaching now, closing in on me. Some are grimacing and glassy-eyed, but I don’t see any bruises or other immediate signs of abuse. “What happened?”

“We’re being punished.” Juno’s voice floats over to me, and I look to my right to see her gliding towards us. Her face also looks shiny, and she fans herself. “But I don’t think we should lay the blame entirely at your door. We should have known better.” She presses her lips together before adding, “I should have known better.”

“I did know better,” Lenah chimes in, tartly. I didn’t see her sneak up behind me. “And yet I’m being punished all the same.”

“I’m so sorry,” I bleat. “I did ask Aur—his Majesty not to. I told him it was all my doing.”

“He gave the order immediately. Hours ago,” Lenah snaps. “Although I doubt you would have been able to dissuade him, regardless.”

“I tried.” The guilt tastes bitter, like bile in my throat.
